Severe fire in barn with hundreds of cows
A barn containing 400 cows caught fire, but all the animals were rescued.
A serious fire broke out in a barn located outside Horred, in Marks Municipality, Sweden, late Sunday evening, drawing attention from local emergency services. The barn, housing approximately 400 cows, was engulfed in flames, prompting a swift response from the firefighters who prioritized rescuing the animals and protecting adjacent buildings from the fire's spread. According to Jonas Myrén, the on-duty chief of the rescue services, the operation involved a significant effort from both the firefighters and the farm owners to evacuate the cows to nearby pastures.
As the situation unfolded, initial concerns regarding the safety of the animals were addressed when positive news emerged several hours later: all 400 cows had been saved, and thankfully, there were no reports of deceased animals. Fire officials, including Henrik Andersson, emphasized the successful coordination of efforts to mitigate the impacts of the blaze on nearby structures while prioritizing the well-being of the cows. Unfortunately, despite the successful rescue, the barn itself was entirely destroyed in the blaze.
This incident underscores the critical nature of animal rescue during emergencies and highlights the importance of readiness and support from local fire departments in rural areas. The swift actions taken by the firefighters and farm owners prevented potential losses not only of livestock but also maintained the livelihood of the farm owners who depend on these animals for their agricultural operations.
