Motorcyclist hit by Chilean kite string dies on Marechal Rondon

A motorcyclist has died after being struck by a Chilean kite string while riding on the Marechal Rondon highway in Bauru, São Paulo.

On Sunday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred on the Marechal Rondon highway (SP-300) at kilometer 343 in Bauru, São Paulo, where a motorcyclist lost his life after being sliced by a Chilean kite string. The collision caused him to lose control of his motorcycle, leading to a fall into the roadside at approximately 2 PM. Reports indicate that another individual sustained minor injuries due to the incident.

The Regulatory Agency for Delegated Public Transport Services of the State of São Paulo (Artesp) confirmed that emergency response units and forensic investigators arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. The motorcycle was removed from the site by a family member about an hour after the mishap, and the funeral service came to the location soon after to manage the situation. The area remained clear after the removal of the vehicle, with no significant traffic congestion reported by the concessionaire Viarondon.

This incident raises concerns about the dangers posed by kite flying, particularly with the use of dangerous kite strings such as those made from glass or other cutting materials. It highlights the need for greater awareness and potential regulation of kite-flying activities to prevent further tragedies on roadways. Local authorities may need to address this issue to safeguard both motorists and kite enthusiasts alike.
