Young motorcyclist dies after being hit by high-voltage wire during rain in SC
An 18-year-old motorcyclist in Blumenau, Brazil, died after being struck by a high-voltage wire during a rainstorm.
An 18-year-old motorcyclist tragically lost his life in Blumenau, Santa Catarina, after being struck by a high-voltage wire on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 4:20 PM in the Salto do Norte neighborhood while it was raining, which likely contributed to the hazardous conditions. Emergency responders from the local fire department arrived on the scene and found the young man already down, indicating the severity of the accident.
Due to the fact that the electrical wiring was still live, the local electricity provider, Centrais ElΓ©tricas de Santa Catarina (Celesc), was summoned to help secure the area and ensure the safety of the responders. The area surrounding the accident was cordoned off to protect passersby from potential electric shock until emergency services could safely shut off the power. Unfortunately, despite their efforts to provide assistance, the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead on-site, highlighting the tragic outcome of the event.
In the aftermath, the victim's remains were retrieved by the Scientific Police for identification and further investigation. The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed to the public. In a public statement, Celesc expressed condolences regarding the incident, emphasizing the seriousness of safety in adverse weather conditions, and likely reflecting on the systemic need for better infrastructure to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
