In the opening matches of the men's Baltic League quarter-finals, Estonian clubs Tartu Bigbank and Võru Barrus Võrkpalliklubi earned wins against their opponents. Tartu Bigbank, which finished second in the main tournament, secured a decisive 3:0 victory against the Latvian club Ezerzeme/Daugavpils University, with match scores of 28:26, 25:10, and 25:14. The next match in this two-win series is scheduled for February 18th in Latvia.
The Tartu team's offensive was spearheaded by captain Martti Juhkami, who scored 17 points, including five aces, showing impressive performance alongside his teammates. Additionally, Mart Naaber contributed significantly with 13 points, while Jack Williams added 11. The team's reception success rate was 46%, and they achieved a striking 57% attack efficiency, complemented by 10 blocks against the Latvians and 10 service aces with only five errors.
In contrast, the Latvian club's top performer, Sandis Vilcans, managed to score 10 points as his team struggled with a reception success of 41% and only 37% in attack efficiency. The overall performance highlighted the dominance of the Estonian teams in this quarter-final, marking a strong start for both Tartu and Võru in the competition as they look to advance further in the Baltic League.
