STF football club does not respect the rules of the game
A Federal Police report reveals connections between Brazilian Supreme Court justice Dias Toffoli and a banker under investigation, including significant financial transactions linked to a luxury resort.
The Federal Police of Brazil has submitted a report to the President of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) indicating troubling connections between Supreme Court Justice Dias Toffoli and Daniel Vorcaro, a former owner of Banco Master, who is the subject of an ongoing investigation. The police report allegedly includes conversations from 2024 found on Vorcaro's mobile phone, where discussion of R$ 35 million in payments to the Tayayá resort is mentioned, alongside claims that Vorcaro is being pressured regarding these transactions. This raises serious questions regarding the integrity of the judiciary and potential conflicts of interest.
Further complicating the narrative is the involvement of Toffoli's family members, who had previously engaged in business dealings related to the Tayayá resort. In 2021, a company owned by Toffoli’s brothers acquired shares in the resort, later selling half of their stake to a fund connected to Vorcaro's brother-in-law. This business relationship persisted until early 2025 when the Toffoli family ended their involvement in the luxury establishment. The initial relationship between Toffoli's family and both the Tayayá resort and the Master bank was brought to light by Folha earlier this year, but it was only following the Federal Police's revelations that Toffoli disclosed his partnership in the Maridt company, which was previously undisclosed due to its limited liability company status.
This unfolding situation presents numerous implications for Brazil's legal and political landscape, as the potential entwining of judiciary figures with private business dealings raises concerns about transparency, accountability, and the rule of law in the country. With public trust in institutions waning, this issue is likely to remain at the forefront of political discourse as investigations continue and potentially further developments unfold.
