V. Sinkevičius does not think that Skvernelis should step down: it would seem like running away
V. Sinkevičius argues that stepping down would convey a sense of fleeing from responsibility regarding the current political situation.
V. Sinkevičius, speaking on the show 'ELTA Savaitė', expressed his views on the situation surrounding the Lithuanian political party led by S. Skvernelis. He stated that if Skvernelis were to resign, it would create an impression that he was trying to escape from accountability. Sinkevičius emphasized the importance of the party leader, who is elected by the community, and highlighted their expression of confidence in Skvernelis despite ongoing challenges. He noted that discussions about Skvernelis's position will be held in detail during the party's board meeting scheduled for February 23.
Moreover, Sinkevičius acknowledged the seriousness of the situation as Skvernelis has been granted special witness status in a corruption case. This development inevitably raises concerns about the potential loss of trust among the party's electorate. He pointed out that the political fallout from this issue could have detrimental effects, as many people might unjustly perceive Skvernelis as already guilty, a stigma difficult to reverse. This situation underscores the complexities faced by political figures when legal matters intersect with public perception and party stability, suggesting that the party must carefully navigate the upcoming discussions to maintain its credibility with voters.
