Firefighters locate boat that sank in Salinas, Pará
The Brazilian firefighters discovered a fishing vessel that sank off the coast of Salinópolis in Pará, while search efforts continue for the missing pilot.
This weekend, the Military Fire Brigade of Pará successfully located a fishing vessel that had sunk off the coast of Salinópolis in northeastern Pará, Brazil. The boat was found approximately 80 kilometers offshore. While five crew members were rescued alive by nearby fishing boats, the search is ongoing for the vessel's pilot, James Moraes, who has been missing since the sinking last Sunday.
The sunken boat was associated with the Fishing Cooperative of Maranhão. Survivors reported that the pilot was in the boat's cabin and was unable to escape in time during the incident. The effort to locate the vessel involved a team of divers from the fire department; however, they faced several challenges when attempting to access the interior of the wreck due to strong maritime currents, poor visibility, numerous surrounding artifacts, and adverse ocean conditions.
The incident raises concerns about maritime safety in the region, especially given the challenges posed by unpredictable weather and sea conditions that fishing vessels may encounter. As rescue operations continue, the community remains hopeful for the safe return of the missing pilot while underscoring the need for enhanced safety measures for fishing operations in these waters.
