Burning power bank forced SAS plane to make emergency landing in Norway

A SAS flight from Oslo to Tromsø made an emergency landing in Trondheim due to a burning power bank on board.

A SAS flight traveling from Oslo, Norway's capital, to Tromsø had to make an emergency landing in Trondheim following an incident involving a burning power bank. According to Norwegian public service broadcaster NRK, the aircraft's crew were unable to reduce the temperature of the device, prompting them to land at Værnes airport in Trondheim. After the landing, four or five crew members were assessed by health personnel due to smoke exposure from the incident.

The onboard power bank began to overheat, indicating a potential fire hazard, which is particularly concerning given the confined space of an aircraft cabin. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported as a result of the incident, and the local police have announced they will conduct an investigation into the matter to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the burning device.

Such incidents highlight the risks associated with carrying electronic devices on planes, as power banks and similar devices can present fire hazards under certain conditions. Airlines typically have strict regulations regarding the transportation of lithium batteries, and incidents like this serve as a reminder for travelers to adhere to guidelines to mitigate risks while flying.
