Fire Development in the Cabin - Plane Had to Land in Værnes

A plane en route to Tromsø had to make an emergency landing in Værnes due to overheating of a power bank in the cabin, causing smoke but no serious injuries.

A flight traveling from Oslo to Tromsø had to make an emergency landing at Værnes airport after a power bank in the cabin overheated. The incident raised safety concerns as some crew members were exposed to smoke, but fortunately, there were no serious injuries reported. The crew acted quickly, sending out a mayday signal and landing safely after smoke was detected in the cabin.

According to operational leader Martin Eriksen Skjerve from the Trøndelag police district, there was no actual fire or open flames involved in the incident. The decision to land was primarily due to the inability to reduce the temperature of the overheated power bank, which posed a potential safety risk. Lars Lunde, duty manager at 110 Midt-Norge, explained that they opted for Værnes to ensure the safety of the passengers and crew by handing over the situation to the fire department.

No disruptions to other air traffic are expected following the emergency landing, according to press officer Carita Storm Røsaasen from Avinor. This incident highlights the importance of monitoring electronic devices on flights, as overheating can lead to serious safety threats. Thankfully, swift action by the crew mitigated any potential danger during this situation.
