Inmet renews alert for intense rains in cities of Sertão da Paraíba; see list

On Sunday, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a renewed alert for heavy rains affecting the Sertão region in Paraíba, Brazil. The yellow alert, indicating potential danger from intense rainfall, will be in effect until 11:59 PM local time on Sunday and covers 74 municipalities. In addition, a more severe orange alert, indicating a significant danger from intense rains, was issued the previous day and impacts 51 municipalities, also valid until 11:59 PM on Sunday.

The yellow alert warns of rainfall between 20 and 30 millimeters per hour, with winds reaching up to 60 km/h, but the risks are considered low for power outages and falling trees. Conversely, the orange alert signifies the potential for much heavier rainfall of 30 to 60 millimeters per hour, with gusty winds up to 100 km/h, thus carrying higher risks including power interruptions, tree falls, flooding, and lightning strikes.

Local authorities are urging residents in the affected areas to stay alert and take precautions as severe weather conditions can lead to hazardous situations. The population is advised to avoid unnecessary travel and to be prepared for possible emergencies as the weather situation may evolve throughout the day.
