Jeong Dae-yoon loses to Kingsbury in the quarterfinals of 'Dual Mogul'... Greatest Kingsbury becomes the inaugural champion
Korean skier Jeong Dae-yoon was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 'Dual Mogul' event at the 2026 Winter Olympics by Canada's Mikael Kingsbury.
Jeong Dae-yoon, a 21-year-old representing the Seoul Ski Association and a bronze medalist from last year's world championship, faced a disappointing exit in the quarterfinals of the 'Dual Mogul' competition held in Livigno, Italy. Competing against Mikael Kingsbury, a dominant figure in the sport with 100 World Cup victories, Jeong suffered a significant loss with a score of 0-35. Kingsbury's performance was formidable not only in this round but throughout the competition, as he proceeded to secure the title of the first Olympic champion in this newly introduced event.
The 'Dual Mogul', a format making its Olympic debut, involves head-to-head competitions where two skiers race down a mogul course simultaneously, increasing the excitement and competitive nature of the sport. Jeong had initially shown promise by defeating competitors from Finland and France, but his momentum faltered against Kingsbury, who is celebrated not only for his record in World Cup events but also for his Olympic accolades, including a gold medal in the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics and several medals in previous Winter Games.
In the quarterfinals, Jeong started off at a comparable speed to Kingsbury and successfully completed his first aerial maneuver; however, he was unable to maintain stability upon landing, resulting in him veering off course and failing to finish the run. Kingsbury continued his dominant performance by overcoming Japanese opponents in both the semifinals and finals, clinching his place at the top of the podium. Another Korean skier, Lee Yoon-seung, unfortunately, was eliminated in the round of 32, highlighting the challenges facing the Korean team in this high-stakes competition.
