Gaza Strip Civil Protection Agency: 11 people killed in Israeli strikes
The ongoing violence in Palestinian territories has escalated, with 11 casualties reported due to Israeli airstrikes amidst a fragile ceasefire mediated by the U.S.
Despite a ceasefire mediated by the U.S. that entered its second phase last month, violence in Palestinian territories continues unabated. The ongoing hostilities have seen both Israel and the Islamist group Hamas accusing each other of violating the terms of the agreement. Reports indicate that Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip have led to significant civilian casualties, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
According to the Gaza Strip's Civil Protection Agency, which operates as a rescue force for Hamas, a series of airstrikes resulted in multiple fatalities. A strike hit a shelter in northern Gaza where internally displaced persons had taken refuge, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and several injuries. Another strike targeted a location in the southern city of Khan Younis, leading to additional casualties, including another five fatalities, underscoring the devastating impact of the conflict on innocent lives.
Further complicating the situation, hospitals such as Al-Shifa and Nasser have confirmed receiving numerous bodies, indicating the severity of the ongoing violence. An Israeli military official claimed that the strikes were a response to attacks carried out by Hamas, suggesting that without a significant change in strategy, the cycle of violence may only continue, making any prospects for peace and stability increasingly distant.
