Media Fund Director: Decisions on Funding for Media Projects Delayed Until the End of February
The director of the media fund stated that funding decisions for media projects will be delayed until the end of February due to budget cuts.
The director of Lithuania's media fund, R. Iržikevičius, indicated that decisions regarding financial support for media projects are now expected to be finalized later than originally anticipated, specifically around February 23. This delay arises from a recent 5% cut to the fund's budget, which amounted to 555,000 euros. Such adjustments require careful internal deliberations within the fund's board, consequently prolonging the decision-making process.
Originally, it was hoped that funding decisions would be made by mid-January; however, the need to rebalance the budget has extended the timeline significantly. Media outlets affected by this postponement must now adjust their expectations and plans accordingly. The fund's management is actively working to finalize the distribution of available resources among various projects, which has become increasingly complex due to the cuts.
R. Iržikevičius expressed optimism that the fund's board will reach a resolution on February 23, allowing for the announcement of competition results soon thereafter. This optimism is crucial for media enterprises relying on these funds for their long-term sustainability and development. The timing and outcome of these decisions will have significant implications for the media landscape in Lithuania, as various projects await the necessary financial support to proceed and innovate in the current environment.
