Yu Seung-min: 'If the National Power Party is divided, it will inevitably lose'... Reaffirms decision not to run for Gyeonggi governor
Former lawmaker Yu Seung-min criticized the ruling National Power Party for internal conflicts and reiterated his decision not to run for Gyeonggi governor in the upcoming local elections.
Former National Assembly member Yu Seung-min has condemned the ruling National Power Party's internal strife, particularly in the context of the upcoming local elections. He appeared on MBN's 'Special News' on the 15th, stating that the party's current behavior is not that of a normal political organization. He expressed disappointment that the party, which should be presenting alternatives to the Lee Jae-myung administration's governance, is preoccupied with internal disputes. Yu highlighted that the party has been divided over the impeachment process for a decade and warned that without overcoming these divisions, they are bound to face electoral defeat.
Yu Seung-min further criticized the party's ethics committee for disciplining figures associated with former leader Han Dong-hoon, calling it a witch hunt that signifies the absence of healthy politics within the party. He expressed concern over the leadership's decision not to attend a proposed meeting between opposition leaders, suggesting that such decisions driven by radical factions within the party are detrimental. He articulated the need for opposition leaders to address issues with the current administration directly to the public.
Despite speculation around his potential run for governor, Yu firmly stated he has no intentions to pursue that path, instead emphasizing his commitment to reconstructing the conservative party and its political ideology after two major impeachments. He noted that the party's ongoing internal turmoil might hinder any constructive role he could have in the upcoming elections, indicating a tense political environment ahead as the local elections approach.
