Know what precautions you need to take when using makeup in the sun

As Carnival approaches in Brazil, experts emphasize the importance of skincare while wearing makeup outdoors, highlighting risks such as skin irritation and acne from prolonged sun exposure.

With Carnival season in Brazil approaching, many revelers focus on perfecting their looks for street parties, which often involves wearing makeup for extended periods under the sun. However, experts warn that prolonged sun exposure can sensitize the skin, leading to various skin issues. Cosmetologist Joyce Rodrigues mentions that simply being in the sun can irritate the skin, and the longer makeup is left on, the more likely it is to clog pores and result in acne or skin irritations.

Dermatologist Samara Kouzak points out that the combination of makeup, heat, sweat, and extended sun exposure can activate or worsen dermatitis, allergies, and acne. These factors can cause skin inflammation or other skin problems, making it crucial for makeup users to take necessary precautions. Her advice includes using sunscreen before makeup application to protect the skin effectively from harmful UV rays.

Kouzak advises applying sunscreen 5 to 10 minutes before makeup to allow adequate absorption, which can also minimize potential adverse skin reactions caused by makeup combined with sun exposure. Daily sunscreen application 15 to 30 minutes before sun exposure is recommended to enhance its efficacy, ensuring that individuals can enjoy Carnival without compromising their skin health.
