Kamatero: Arrests of 'employees of an electricity company'
Two individuals were arrested in Kamatero, Greece, for posing as electricity company employees to commit fraud against an elderly woman.
In the municipality of Kamatero, Athens, two men aged 22 and 27 were arrested for fraud and violence against electricity company employees. The incident occurred on Tsiknopempti when the suspects impersonated company employees and called an elderly woman in nearby Petroupoli, convincing her that there was a power outage in her home. Under this pretense, they tricked her into placing valuables worth €7,000 outside her door for repair, after which they stole the items when she complied.
Upon being alerted, local police officers from the D.I.A.S. squad conducted targeted searches in the area for the suspects' vehicle. They successfully located the car with the perpetrators inside. When the officers attempted to engage them, the driver fled, leading the officers on a pursuit. Despite their efforts to escape, the police managed to apprehend both suspects, preventing further offenses and highlighting the ongoing issues of fraud targeting vulnerable residents.
This incident sheds light on the increasing scams aimed at the elderly in Greece, particularly during times when criminals exploit the public's vulnerabilities, such as holidays and local events like Tsiknopempti. The police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior, especially concerning unsolicited visits or phone calls related to service providers.
