The closely-knit 3000m relay team "pulled each other from the front and pushed from the back"
The South Korean women’s short track relay team has qualified for the finals of the 3000m relay at the 2026 Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics after a strong semifinal performance.
The South Korean women's short track relay team exhibited exceptional teamwork in their recent semifinal performance at the 2026 Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics, successfully securing a spot in the finals. The team, consisting of Minjeong Choi, Gili Kim, Soyoun Lee, and Sukhee Shim, showcased a well-coordinated effort at the Ice Skating Arena in Milan, finishing first in their heat. With this achievement, the team is hopeful about reclaiming their Olympic title, last won in 2018 at the Pyeongchang Games.
In a post-race interview, the youngest member, Gili Kim, expressed her gratitude towards her older teammates for their strong leadership during the race. She attributed their success to the effective teamwork and expressed confidence in their preparations for the final. Highlighting the importance of trust and cohesion among team members, Minjeong Choi emphasized that their belief in one another would play a crucial role in attaining a good outcome in the finals.
Soyoun Lee, the team's eldest member, also shared sentiments of appreciation for her teammates, noting the hard work they've put in leading up to the semifinal. Shim, the second runner, emphasized the diversity in physical attributes and ages within the team, proclaiming their commitment to continued collaboration and unity as they approach the final. The anticipation builds as they aim to deliver a stellar performance on the world stage once again, promising good results in the upcoming final scheduled for early morning on the 19th of January, South Korean time.
