Woman reports mistreatment of dogs at kennel in high-end condominium in Sorocaba

A service provider reported mistreatment of dogs at a kennel operating in a high-end condominium in Sorocaba, Brazil, claiming the dogs are in poor condition and many have died due to lack of care.

A concerned service provider, who chose to remain anonymous, has reported a kennel located within a high-end condominium in Sorocaba, São Paulo, alleging that it houses 16 dogs in distressing conditions. The service provider was contracted in 2023 to groom the animals and noted that since the owner moved in approximately three years ago, she has left 27 dogs under the care of a handler, and due to insufficient assistance, 11 of those dogs have died. The situation was so dire that the service provider described encountering a horrific scene upon arrival: the dogs were confined to small cages, sick, starving, and infested with bacteria, with many also suffering from snake bites.

The allegations came to light after a police report was filed on Thursday, December 12th. The service provider emphasized that the dogs were not only living in unsanitary conditions but were also malnourished. Some dogs reportedly suffered from severe injuries, with one having a deep wound in its eye. The distressing accounts underline the urgent need for proper animal welfare measures to be enforced in residential areas where such neglect can have serious consequences for the animals.

The implications of this case extend beyond animal rights; it brings attention to the responsibilities of pet owners and the need for vigilant community awareness in situations where animals may be at risk. Animal welfare advocates are likely to rally around this incident to push for stronger laws and penalties related to pet care and the conditions under which animals are kept, especially in affluent communities where expectations for animal care may be higher.
