For a carnival free of excess and safe

Ecuador is preparing for its 2026 carnival celebration, emphasizing safety and regulations to mitigate excesses during festivities.

Ecuador's carnival celebration combines Andean folklore, coastal joy, sun, and sea, and this year, efforts are underway to ensure a safer event with municipal ordinances and laws designed to curb excesses related to water games, dye, and other activities. Despite current prohibitions and fines in various jurisdictions, incidents of violence during the festivities have not been completely eradicated, necessitating strict controls throughout the four-day holiday, which is anticipated to boost the tourism sector. Last year's carnival holiday generated $73 million in tourist spending, marking a $9 million increase from 2024, and the Ministry of Tourism forecasts approximately $80 million in revenue for the current carnival period spanning from February 14 to February 17, showcasing the economic significance of the celebration.
