The ongoing construction of a permanent transport connection via an underwater tunnel between Fehmarn in Germany and Lolland in Denmark is one of Europe's most ambitious infrastructure projects in recent years. Unlike traditional rock-bored tunnels, this project will employ what is known as a submerged tunnel method. These elements are then transported to the intended location in the open sea, where they are submerged in a pre-prepared trench on the sea floor and assembled like massive Lego blocks.
