Kregor Zirk has brought over 500 swimmers to Tartu for the Zirk Swim Cup, a major international swimming event.
Kregor Zirk, Estonia's seventh-place finisher in the 200-meter butterfly at the last Summer Olympics, has organized a significant international swimming competition called the Zirk Swim Cup in his hometown of Tartu. The event, held at the Aura Center, has attracted over 500 swimmers from nine different countries, showcasing top Estonian swimming talent and Olympic finalists. The event's vibrant atmosphere includes light shows and smoke machines, contributing to the excitement among fans in the stands.
As the host, Kregor Zirk himself participated in the competition, competing in his specialty event, the 200-meter butterfly. In a thrilling match, Zirk faced off against Slovakian swimmer Samuel Kostal, with both swimmers demonstrating remarkable skill and competitiveness. Although Zirk did not beat his personal record, he focused on giving his best performance and described his swim experience as exhilarating, particularly highlighting the camaraderie and strategy discussions he shared with Kostal prior to the race.
The Zirk Swim Cup not only serves as a platform for high-level swimming competitions but also promotes the sport within Estonia, encouraging youth and new talent to compete. Through his efforts, Zirk is fostering enthusiasm in the sport and providing a prestigious stage for swimmers from various nations, reinforcing the growing international presence of Estonian athletics in the swimming community.
