Sudanese Move in Uganda to Encircle Supporters of the Rapid Support Forces
Sudan's Vice President Malik Agar has urged Uganda's President Museveni to leverage regional connections to address support for the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan.
The Vice President of Sudan's Sovereign Council, Malik Agar, has called upon Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to utilize his regional influence in reaching out to entities that support the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan. This plea came during Agar's visit to Uganda, where discussions included enhancing bilateral relations and collaborative efforts aimed at achieving peace and halting the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The Sudanese council's public statement indicated that Agar engaged in comprehensive discussions with Museveni at the presidential palace in Entebbe, focusing particularly on the urgent need to curtail external support for the RSF.
In addition to addressing the RSF's support, Agar and Museveni explored ways to restore Sudan's membership in the African Union, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation in resolving the complexities of Sudan's internal strife. Museveni's commitment to communicate with member states of the African Union's Peace and Security Council signifies a proactive approach towards re-integrating Sudan into continental collaborations and addressing its political instability.
The implications of this meeting extend beyond bilateral relations, as it reflects a wider regional initiative to stabilize Sudan and curb external influences that exacerbate the conflict. The collaboration between Uganda and Sudan underlines the necessity for regional powers to engage constructively in mediating conflicts within the East African region, ultimately aiming to foster enduring peace and security.
