Civil police officers in Rio de Janeiro executed an operation during Carnival where they disguised themselves as characters, including those from the popular series 'La Casa de Papel' and the horror movie character Jason. Their plan was to blend in with the crowd to more effectively identify and apprehend criminals who typically exploit the festivities for theft. This operation took place on Friday, March 13, in the Santa Teresa neighborhood, known for its vibrant Carnival celebrations.

During the operation, police managed to arrest a man and a woman caught in the act of stealing cell phones. The police reported that they recovered five phones from the suspects. Videos released by the police show these individuals being escorted by officers in their unusual costumes, which also included nods to iconic characters like Batman and Captain America. The approach aimed to provide a layer of surprise and increased surveillance among the revelers, especially with the high incidence of theft during large crowds.

In addition to disguising themselves, the police employed aerial monitoring using drones to enhance their surveillance capabilities. The intention behind this unique strategy was to quickly pinpoint the actions of criminals blending in with Carnival attendees. After observing a woman snatching a cell phone from another person's hand, the undercover officers moved in to apprehend her and her accomplice, demonstrating a proactive and creative approach to maintaining safety during the festive season.
