On Saturday morning, a 52-year-old homeless man was hit by a pickup truck while on the BR-153 highway near São José do Rio Preto, São Paulo. The Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that the man had alcohol in his system, as indicated by a breathalyzer test. In a separate incident on the same day, another crash occurred further down the same highway in Ubarana, SP, where a pickup truck collided with a car after veering into the opposite lane. The collision caused the pickup to leave the road, go over a bank, and flip over, while the car ended up on the opposing lane.
These incidents highlight the ongoing dangers present on Brazilian highways, particularly for vulnerable populations such as the homeless. Efforts to improve road safety and provide assistance to those in need are vital in preventing future tragedies. This situation further emphasizes the need for greater empathy and systemic support for individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as increased road safety measures in high-traffic areas.
