This product is being permanently removed from stores - "Now the last ones are being sold..."
DVD and Blu-ray discs are being phased out of stores in Finland as demand has sharply decreased over the past decade.
In Finland, iconic DVD and Blu-ray discs are set to disappear from market shelves completely due to diminishing demand. Mika Karvonen, a sales director at S Group, shared insights about the drastic shift in the music and film market, noting that sales of these formats have dropped significantly over the years. He mentioned that demand in stores like Prisma was just one-eighth of what it was a decade ago.
Karvonen explained that the dwindling popularity of DVD and Blu-ray discs led to their removal from S Group's product range about a year ago. After a gradual phase-out since the beginning of this year, retailers are now offering the last available units. Consumers are encouraged to purchase these items soon if they wish to own them, as stocks are expected to run out.
DVDS and Blu-rays first entered the Finnish market in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and their withdrawal marks a significant change in consumer behavior and preferences, which have shifted towards digital streaming platforms. This transition highlights the evolving landscape of media consumption in Finland and globally, reflecting broader trends in the entertainment industry as physical media continues to decline in favor of online options.
