Worker killed after car falls into construction area in Serra das Araras
A construction worker was killed when a car lost control and fell into a work area on the Serra das Araras in Brazil.
On the morning of Saturday, October 14, a tragic accident occurred on the Serra das Araras in Piraí, Rio de Janeiro, where a 50-year-old construction worker lost his life after being struck by a car that veered off the road. The incident happened around 11:50 AM near kilometer 230 on the highway heading towards São Paulo. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the car collided with a trailer before it veered out of control, crashing into the worker who was performing tasks along the roadside.
The vehicle was driven by a woman and contained three passengers, all of whom were foreign nationals from Ghana. As of the time of this report, it was unclear whether the passengers or the driver sustained any injuries. The PRF has been investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident, particularly the mechanical condition of the vehicle and the decisions made by the driver that may have led to this fatal incident.
In the aftermath of the crash, traffic in the Serra das Araras area was significantly affected, as only one lane was open for vehicles by 1:30 PM, leading to delays and congestion. Such incidents raise serious concerns regarding road safety, particularly in areas with ongoing construction, highlighting the need for stringent measures to protect workers and ensure safer driving conditions for all road users.
