Africa: 'Women Leaders Reshaping African Governance' - Namibia Convenes High-Level Dialogue in Addis
Namibia hosted a high-level dialogue in Addis Ababa focused on women's leadership in African governance during the African Union Summit.
On February 13th, Namibia organized a significant dialogue at the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, titled 'Beyond Barriers: Women Leaders Reshaping African Governance.' This event, co-hosted by Namibia's Mission in Addis Ababa, aimed to engage female leaders and stakeholders in discussions about inclusive leadership and sustainable development across the continent. Notably, it featured participation from both current and former female Heads of State, demonstrating the focus on elevating women's roles in governance.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia highlighted the importance of resilience and the unique challenges faced by women in political leadership during a discussion with Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the former President of Liberia. The dialogue provided a candid platform to explore not only the barriers women face in traditional male-dominated political environments but also the strategies that have enabled some to thrive and lead effectively.
Moderated by Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, the UN Women Deputy Executive Director, the event served to reinforce the commitment to promoting gender equality in governance and leadership. It highlighted the collaborative efforts among African institutions and global partners to foster peace, sustainability, and the empowerment of women leaders across the continent, illustrating a crucial step towards transforming political landscapes in Africa.
