Business Closures: Between Openings and Closures, There are 21,938 Fewer in Two Years
In Argentina, the net number of businesses has dropped by 21,938 over two years, indicating a concerning trend in economic stability and employment.
In Argentina, the trend of business closures outweighing new openings continues to raise concerns about the economic landscape and employment levels. Data shows that the net closure of businesses reached 892 in November alone, contributing to a total decline of 9,722 employers over the first eleven months of 2025. This troubling statistic highlights the precarious environment for businesses under the current government led by Javier Milei.
According to the Superintendence of Occupational Risks' figures, there were 512,357 employers in November 2023, a figure that has significantly dropped to 490,419 by November 2025. Concurrently, the workforce has also decreased, with 9,857,173 workers reported in November 2023 versus 9,566,571 in the same month of 2025. This dramatic reduction of 290,602 total workers emphasizes the adverse impact the declining business sector is having on job availability in the country.
The report joins a series of alarming indicators reflecting the challenges facing the Argentine economy, characterized by rising unemployment rates and a dwindling number of productive units. These developments not only point to immediate economic distress but also potential long-term implications for social stability as the gap between business closures and openings widens, suggesting a need for stronger policy responses to support the business environment and encourage sustainable employment growth.
