Operation Electric Trio: Suspects Arrested with Adulterated Alcohol for Sale at Carnival in Interior SP
Two men were arrested in Cerquilho, SP, for allegedly selling adulterated alcohol during the local Carnival festivities.
In a police operation dubbed 'Operation Electric Trio', two men aged 26 and 38 were apprehended for allegedly selling adulterated alcoholic beverages during the Carnival celebrations in Cerquilho, São Paulo. The event unfolded on the night of February 13, when security personnel noticed suspicious behavior from the suspects and alerted local law enforcement. The suspects attempted to flee towards the bus terminal when they were intercepted by the Civil Police and the Municipal Guard.
Upon searching the suspects, authorities discovered 16 bottles containing dubious alcoholic liquids. These substances were found to not match their packaging, exuding a foul odor, and lacked any identifiable manufacturer or receipts, indicating that they were likely tampered with or counterfeit. This incident raises significant concerns regarding public safety at large gatherings, especially during festive periods when the consumption of alcohol typically increases.
In addition to the adulterated alcohol, one of the men was found in possession of what appeared to be marijuana, leading to further legal troubles given his previous drug possession charges. This case underscores the ongoing challenges of ensuring the safety and integrity of food and beverage sales during high-profile events like Carnival, highlighting the need for stringent monitoring and enforcement by authorities.
