The Municipality of Guayaquil has taken action to shut down the Casino Club del Sol, which was located within the Sheraton Hotel, due to its lack of necessary permits. This decision came after videos surfaced that showcased various activities taking place at the venue, which ignited public concern regarding the legality of its operations. Officials highlighted that the closure was part of an inter-institutional operation aimed at enforcing regulations surrounding gambling and entertainment establishments.

During the operation, the General Directorate of Justice and Vigilance, in collaboration with Segura EP, and local fire department services, thoroughly inspected the casino. The findings confirmed that the casino was not only facilitating gambling activities but was also selling alcoholic beverages, all while lacking the mandated Annual License for the Operation of Establishments (LAFE).
