Unusual action by officials: "We come loudly so that the thief would come quietly"
Skuodas police officials collaborated with firefighters to remind residents about safety precautions, emphasizing the importance of locking doors and checking smoke detectors.
In a recent initiative, the Skuodas police community officers teamed up with local firefighters to promote safety in residential areas. They conducted rounds in apartment buildings, ensuring that residents locked their doors properly while also checking smoke detectors. This collaborative effort aimed to raise awareness about security measures following concerns regarding residential safety in the area.
Officer Lina Tiškuvienė explained that although the police had been organizing meetings with residents previously, attendance was often low, consisting mostly of repeat participants. To enhance engagement, the officers started visiting individual homes first and then expanded their outreach to apartment complexes, trying to connect more effectively with the community. They believed that directly visiting residents might lead to better awareness of safety practices.
During these visits, officers would knock loudly on doors to get the attention of homeowners without entering their premises. Tiškuvienė noted that while apartment dwellers generally lock their doors, individual homeowners often leave their doors wide open or unlocked, posing a potential security risk. This initiative highlights the importance of community involvement in enhancing local safety and the efforts of the police to adapt their approach to better communicate with and serve the public.
