11 beaches on the RN coast are unsuitable for bathing this carnival

Eleven stretches of beaches along the Rio Grande do Norte coast are reported as unsuitable for swimming during the carnival, as stated by the local environmental agency.

According to a recent report released by the Instituto de Desenvolvimento Sustentável e Meio Ambiente do RN (Idema), eleven beach areas along the Rio Grande do Norte coast have been deemed unsuitable for swimming this carnival. The announcement was made on Friday, highlighting concerns for public health and safety during this popular festive season when many flock to the beaches. The affected beaches range across various municipalities, indicating a widespread issue rather than isolated incidents.

The beaches affected include notable locations such as Praia do Meio in Natal and multiple spots in Baía Formosa and Nísia Floresta. With the carnival holiday approaching, these advisories are critical, as they inform both local residents and tourists about the potential health risks associated with bathing in these waters. It is common for environmental agencies to monitor beach conditions more closely during high-traffic seasons like carnival, and this year, Idema reported monitoring 51 beach points, which is 18 more than the usual count throughout the year.

The advisory underscores the importance of environmental monitoring and public awareness, as improper conditions can pose risks to swimmers. This situation encourages individuals to heed warnings and seek out designated safe swimming areas to prevent health issues. Additionally, it highlights the ongoing need for environmental protection efforts to maintain beach quality and the safety of recreational waters in Brazil, especially during peak tourism times.
