Peta calls for pork-free menus as Peppa Pig show rolls into Grimsby

Campaigners are urging Grimsby Auditorium to eliminate pork products from its menu during the run of Peppa Pig's Big Family Show.

Campaigners from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta UK) are calling on the Grimsby Auditorium to stop serving pork products while Peppa Pig's Big Family Show takes place. In response to their request, the venue has agreed to remove items such as bacon, sausages, and ham from its menu for the duration of the show, which is part of a larger tour throughout the UK and Ireland. Peta is also sending vegan ham to the venue as a substitute, highlighting the ethical implications associated with the consumption of pig meat.

Jennifer White, an associate director at Peta, expressed her approval of the decision, suggesting that it serves to remind audiences that pigs have personalities and deserve respect as living beings rather than mere sources of food. This initiative is part of Peta's broader campaign to encourage more compassionate food choices, especially in contexts that are likely to attract families and children, as is the case with the beloved children's character, Peppa Pig.

Peppa Pigโ€™s Big Family Show, which features the fictional pig family engaging in various adventures, is set to tour until September. By eliminating pork products so close to the show's themes, Peta hopes to foster a more ethical dining atmosphere and inspire other theaters to consider similar adjustments, promoting veganism and animal welfare in entertainment venues across the UK.
