A man suspected of involvement in the femicide of Márcia Valéria Costa was arrested in Espírito Santo after chasing and crashing his car into her motorcycle.
A man has been arrested in Espírito Santo in connection with the femicide of Márcia Valéria Costa, a tragic incident that occurred on January 11 at Farol de São Tomé beach in Campos dos Goytacazes, located in Northern Fluminense. The arrest took place thanks to a collaboration between the Civil Police of the state of Rio de Janeiro and the Civil Police of Espírito Santo. Investigators report that the suspect, who had a history with the victim, was motivated by jealousy following a meeting with her at a local bar, leading him to pursue her aggressively.
After exiting the bar on her motorcycle, Márcia was followed by the suspect, who drove his car at high speed before colliding into the back of her motorcycle. This horrific act resulted in Márcia being thrown to the ground, where she sustained fatal injuries. The motorcycle became trapped under the car as a result of the impact, highlighting the severity of the incident and the blatant disregard for the victim’s life by the attacker.
Following the murder, the suspected assailant fled to Espírito Santo. With a coordinated effort involving the sharing of information between law enforcement teams, authorities successfully identified his hiding location near a fishing vessel in Barra do Riacho, a district in Aracruz. The quick response by the police not only brought the suspect to justice but also sheds light on the ongoing issue of violence against women in Brazil, prompting calls for further protective measures in the community and beyond.
