Man sentenced for stabbing ex-partner in SP arrested at Vitória bus station
A 53-year-old man convicted of feminicide in São Paulo was arrested at the Vitória bus station while he was attempting to flee to Laranja da Terra in Espírito Santo.
A 53-year-old man, Jother Cristino Borges, has been arrested at the Vitória bus station on charges of femicide stemming from a stabbing incident involving his ex-partner in Campinas, São Paulo, in 2009. Following his conviction, Borges fled to Espírito Santo in 2019, evading law enforcement until his recent apprehension on October 8. The police were alerted by the Civil Police about the possibility of him attempting to escape the authorities.
According to Weleson Vieira, the director of operations for the Penal Police, upon receiving the tip, a team was dispatched to monitor the bus station in Vitória. They aimed to intercept Borges before he could embark on a bus to Laranja da Terra, a location in the interior of Espírito Santo. The operation was successful when Borges arrived at the station, where he was identified and taken into custody just prior to his scheduled departure.
This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement in Brazil to track down individuals with outstanding warrants, especially in cases related to violence against women. The apprehension of Borges may serve as a critical reminder of the importance of justice in cases of femicide, as authorities continue to confront and address issues of gender-based violence in the country.
