Vasiļjevs finishes the figure skating competition in the second ten; sensational victory for Shaidorov
Latvian figure skater Vasiļjevs finished out of the top positions in a recent competition, with Shaidorov of Kazakhstan taking an unexpected victory.
During a recent figure skating competition, Latvian skater Vasiļjevs performed with the eighth starting number but faced difficulties, particularly with two of his twelve elements failing to meet expectations. His performance earned him a score of 144.02 in the free skate, which caused him to drop three places in the standings, ultimately accumulating a total of 226.46 points for the event.
In a surprising turn of events, Kazakhstan’s Shaidorov emerged as the champion with a total score of 291.58 points. Despite standing fifth after the short program, he capitalized on the mistakes of his competitors to not only secure a medal but to take the gold. Japan's Jumam Kagiyama and Shun Sato followed closely behind, earning the silver and bronze medals with scores of 280.06 and 274.90, respectively.
The competition also saw a major upset as the main favorite, Ilya Malinin, who had been a strong leader following the short program, faltered in the free skate. At just 21 years old, Malinin faced multiple falls during his performance, resulting in only the 15th best score for the free skate, ultimately placing him in eighth overall. This outcome highlights the unpredictable nature of competitive figure skating, where pressure can significantly impact results.
