Tragedy at the PKP station. Investigators have provided new information

Authorities in Łódź have opened an investigation into the accidental death of a 70-year-old woman found deceased at a railway station in Pabianice.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Łódź announced that on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, they initiated an investigation into the unintentional cause of death of a 70-year-old woman, discovered three days earlier near the tracks at the railway station in Pabianice. The woman's body was located under a train traveling from Wrocław to Białystok, which had been halted due to the incident. Initial evidence suggests that she was traveling on a train route from Zakopane to Świnoujście, which passed through the station shortly after 2 AM.

Investigators are looking into how the elderly woman fell and have secured evidence including surveillance footage for analysis. They are also trying to determine if the train staff were informed about the incident involving the passenger and what actions they took in response. Witnesses reported that at the next station, Łódź-Kaliska, railway employees inspected the train for any signs of an accident. However, it was later confirmed that there were no indications of her being struck, such as blood, on the train or at the scene.

The investigation continues as authorities seek to clarify the circumstances surrounding the woman's fall and ultimate death. This incident raises questions about railway safety protocols and the responsibilities of train crews in responding to potential passenger incidents, underlining the need for thorough procedures in railway operations to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
