Courier companies will be able to obtain Authorized Economic Operator certification

The National Customs Service of Ecuador has begun the certification process for courier companies to become Authorized Economic Operators (OEA) as part of enhancing foreign trade operations.

The National Customs Service of Ecuador (SENAE) has initiated a certification process for courier companies, allowing them to become Authorized Economic Operators (OEA). This move aims to expand the program's coverage to include new strategic players involved in the customs management of goods, enhancing the overall efficiency of Ecuador's foreign trade operations. Previously, the OEA program only included importers, exporters, and customs agents, but with the incorporation of courier services, SENAE is aligning its practices with international standards set by the World Customs Organization (WCO).

The certification process will require courier companies to meet several criteria related to security, traceability, internal controls, tax compliance, and continuous staff training. This rigorous process is designed to ensure that participating companies maintain high standards of operation, thereby improving safety and reliability in cross-border trade activities. The OEA certification not only highlights a company’s commitment to compliance but also serves to reinforce their credibility in the international market.

Among the benefits that certified courier companies will enjoy are reduced physical and documentary inspections, expedited customs processes, and enhanced control over their operations. By facilitating smoother transactions and promoting more efficient customs procedures, this initiative aims to strengthen Ecuador’s position in international trade, ultimately benefiting both businesses and consumers through faster delivery times and decreased costs.
