Water volume in the Alto Tiete Production System increases by 3.7 percentage points in a week

The Alto Tiete Production System's water volume rose to 38% due to significant rainfall.

The water volume in the Alto Tiete Production System (Spat) has seen a notable increase of 3.7 percentage points over one week, rising from 34.3% on February 6 to 38% as of the following Friday. This improvement is attributed to considerable rainfall, which has totaled 120.1 millimeters so far this month, accounting for 67.9% of the expected rainfall for February. Among these, 47.3 millimeters were recorded in the last week alone, with a significant 23.8 millimeters falling on Sunday, February 8.

For the first time in eight months, all reservoirs in the Alto Tiete system are operating with volumes exceeding 30%. This milestone indicates a positive shift in water reserve levels, beckoned by recent weather patterns that have led to a resurgence in operational capacities across key infrastructures. The Biritiba reservoir, located in Biritiba-Mirim, has recorded the highest volume among the five reservoirs that comprise the Spat, showcasing a significant rebound in water availability.

The implications of these changes are profound, especially for residents and agricultural sectors reliant on adequate water supplies. With the ongoing improvements in reservoir levels, local governments and water management authorities can breathe a sigh of relief as they navigate the seasonal demands for water. Given the continuing rainfall forecasts, there is cautious optimism regarding sustained increases in water volumes, potentially alleviating concerns over drought conditions in the region.
