Tomašević's 'benefits': Official bicycles introduced for employees

Tomislav Tomašević has introduced official bicycles for city employees in Zagreb to improve mobility and reduce car usage.

Tomislav Tomašević, the Mayor of Zagreb, has implemented a new initiative providing official bicycles for municipal employees. This decision aims to enhance mobility within the city for workers who may need to travel quickly between offices. With a total investment of approximately €24,187.50, 45 official bicycles have been procured from Matis Outdoor d.o.o, to be located at 16 designated spots in the city where municipal offices are situated.

The introduction of these bicycles is part of a broader strategy to modernize public transport and transit infrastructure. By facilitating cycling for employees, the city intends to replace some of the car trips made by staff, which not only promotes a healthier lifestyle but also reduces traffic congestion and lowers carbon emissions. Although officials indicate the importance of this shift, they currently lack data on how many employees are actively utilizing this new service, reflecting an ongoing need for evaluation of the program’s effectiveness.

This initiative aligns with Croatia’s sustainability goals as well as Tomašević's pledge to enhance urban mobility options. The city is concurrently investing in new low-floor trams and electric buses, as well as the public bicycle system, which combines to contribute positively toward sustainable transport solutions in Zagreb. The program’s success may lead to further expansions and improvements in urban infrastructure as the city adapts to its evolving needs.
