Father and son wanted for homicide arrested in Várzea da Palma
A father and son, aged 21 and 48, were arrested in Várzea da Palma for a homicide committed in Buritizeiro in December 2025.
On Thursday, authorities in Várzea da Palma apprehended a father and son, aged 21 and 48, who were wanted for a homicide that took place in Buritizeiro. The murder occurred on December 23, 2025, and the duo was captured during the 'Pré-Carnaval Seguro' operation after police received tips about their location in the rural area near Assentamento Corrente. Lieutenant Gustavo Henrique Lima of the Military Police spoke about the successful operation in a video released following the arrests.
The Military Police had been conducting the operation specifically to ensure safety during the upcoming carnival season when they discovered the suspects hiding at a farm. Both men had outstanding arrest warrants issued by the Criminal Court of Pirapora, which allowed law enforcement to take swift action. After their capture, they were promptly transported to the local Civil Police station for processing.
The homicide case dates back to late December 2025, when police received reports of a violent incident where a 26-year-old man was being attacked by a group on a street in the Bandeirantes neighborhood. The timely intervention by the police underlines the challenges faced by local law enforcement in addressing violent crime, especially as they prepare for a busy carnival period. This incident not only sheds light on ongoing law enforcement efforts but also raises questions about crime rates in the lead-up to major public events in Brazil.
