Problems have arisen in Riga for trucks and public transport to cross the Air Bridge

Riga is facing significant transportation issues for trucks and public transport due to adverse weather conditions affecting the crossing of the Gaisa Bridge.

Riga is currently experiencing challenges related to the crossing of the Gaisa Bridge for both trucks and public transport, attributed to harsh weather conditions that have made road surfaces slippery. This has necessitated the use of assistance for trolleybuses, as they struggle to ascend and cross the bridge in icy conditions.

Since last Friday, heavy snowstorms have been impacting both Riga and the broader region of Latvia, resulting in slower traffic and a rise in traffic accidents, which further complicates the situation on the roads. The weather has not only affected general transportation but has also raised safety concerns for public transport operations.

Additionally, the public transport system faced further disruptions when a 4th route trolleybus caught fire on Brīvības Street on Friday afternoon. Fortunately, the driver was able to extinguish the fire on their own, and no injuries were reported. Officials are urging residents to exercise caution while traveling during these adverse weather conditions as transport networks struggle to cope with the unusual snowfall.
