Carnival Holiday: Bus Fares from Guayaquil to Guaranda, Ambato, and Baños Cost Between $6 and $12.50

The traditional celebrations marking Carnival in the Andean region of Ecuador are leading to a surge in passenger movement from Guayaquil to cities such as Guaranda, Ambato, and Baños. As the holiday from February 14 to 17 approaches, local bus terminals are experiencing an increase in inquiries and ticket sales for these popular destinations. Guaranda offers a promotional fare of $6 until Friday, with service frequencies scheduled from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM, which will increase to $8.25 starting Saturday as demand rises.

Ambato has emerged as a high demand destination, with the bus company Cita Express charging $9.50 per ticket and providing hourly departures, accommodating between 1,000 and 1,500 daily passengers during peak season. Another operator is maintaining a fare of $9.25 and is prepared to adjust its services based on passenger flow. Baños, known for its scenic beauty and festivities, has fares set at $12.50, with as many as eight daily departures, including late-night options, highlighting the increased interest in this holiday travel period.

This influx of travelers reflects not only the cultural significance of Carnival in Ecuador but also the economic impact on local transport services. The ability to adjust fares and schedules allows bus companies to efficiently manage the flow of passengers, ensuring that as many individuals as possible can partake in the vibrant celebrations that mark this festive time in the region.
