Municipal Election 2026: Test for Digital Voting at U18 Election in Tutzing
The upcoming U18 election in Tutzing will be part of a digital voting trial in Bayern where underage residents can participate in the municipal elections.
On March 8, Bavarian municipalities will hold local elections, which will include an U18 voting event for those too young to vote officially. The U18 election aims to engage youth and provide them with a democratic experience. Throughout Bavaria, U18 polling stations will be open from February 16 to 27, supported by local youth organizations, municipalities, and schools.
A key feature of this year's U18 election is the introduction of digital voting in nine selected municipalities, including Tutzing. This initiative is part of a nationwide model project exploring online voting among young voters. Other municipalities participating in this digital voting trial include Augsburg, Dasing, DonauwΓΆrth, Lauf an der Pegnitz, Lappersdorf, Mellrichstadt, Pegnitz, Zeitlarn, and the district of Regensburg. This step towards digital participation could significantly shape the future of elections in the region.
According to a press release from the Bavarian Youth Ring, all residents aged 14 to 17 in Tutzing, holding German or other EU citizenship, will receive a personal voting notification. The U18 election aims to familiarize young citizens with democratic processes and encourage their involvement in civic activities, fostering a sense of responsibility and participation in the democratic system.
