Accident involving ambulance and two other vehicles leaves three dead in southern Bahia
A collision involving an ambulance and two other vehicles resulted in three fatalities in São José da Vitória, Bahia.
A tragic accident in São José da Vitória, located in southern Bahia, Brazil, involved an ambulance, a truck, and a pickup, leading to the death of three individuals. According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the incident occurred early Friday morning at kilometer 545 of the BR-101. Reports indicate that the truck, traveling in the opposite direction, experienced a mechanical failure, preventing the driver from avoiding the ambulance on its route to Itabuna.
The forces of the collision were severe, causing extensive damage to the side of the ambulance, which was carrying five people at the time. Unfortunately, both a doctor and a patient’s companion lost their lives in the impact. Meanwhile, the ambulance driver, along with the nurse and the patient being transported, sustained only minor injuries, highlighting the severity of the tragedy juxtaposed against the survival of some individuals involved.
In the aftermath of the accident, the nurse was able to exit the ambulance and promptly contacted the PRF and emergency services for assistance. The incident raises concerns about road safety, particularly concerning the maintenance and reliability of vehicles operating on main highways. Further investigations by the authorities will likely focus on both the mechanical issues of the truck involved and broader road safety measures in the region.
