Employee at the Traffic Authority detained suspected of bribery
An employee of the Stockholm Regional Traffic Authority has been detained on suspicion of receiving a bribe, alongside other individuals involved in related bribery cases.
An employee from the Traffic Authority of Region Stockholm has been detained on suspicion of accepting bribes. The public prosecutor presented concerns that allowing the suspect to remain free could hinder the ongoing investigation. Recently, searches were conducted at several locations in the Stockholm area, leading to the arrest of four individuals—three on charges of serious bribery and one for giving a serious bribe. Another individual was detained the following day on similar charges.
As the investigation unfolds, three of the detained individuals were released on Thursday, though allegations against them persist according to a press release from the prosecutor’s office. This criminal activity is alleged to have occurred between January 2023 and December 2024. In response to these serious allegations, the Traffic Authority has entered a crisis mode to address the emerging situation, instituting a halt on all financial transactions with companies implicated in the investigation.
This situation has prompted political repercussions as well, with the center coalition and the Left Party deciding to initiate an external review concerning the bribery allegations. This step aims to ensure transparency and accountability as the investigation continues, highlighting both the systemic issues that may exist within the Traffic Authority and the broader implications for governance and public confidence in regional institutions.
