Suspect arrested after using fake profiles to lure and abuse children in AM
A 24-year-old man was arrested in Itacoatiara, Brazil, for allegedly luring and abusing children through fake social media profiles.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Itacoatiara, Amazonas, after being accused of sexual abuse, grooming, stalking, and the recording and dissemination of pornographic content involving children and adolescents. The arrest, made by the Civil Police of Amazonas (PC-AM), follows an investigation that began in 2025 when the director of the victims' school noticed the suspect's inappropriate interactions with students. The man was found to have been using fake profiles on social media to engage with minors, specifically targeting students from the same school.
According to Delegate Mayara Magna of the Specialized Police Station for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (Depca), the suspect had already faced five legal proceedings in one unit and another in Itacoatiara. The investigation highlighted the first known victim, a 12-year-old girl, whom the suspect lured through social media, inviting her to a shopping mall and later to his home, where the abuse occurred. The suspect reportedly documented the abuse through photos and videos, issuing threats of sharing this material if the victim told anyone about the incidents.
The case raises serious concerns about child safety online and underscores the challenges authorities face in tracking and prosecuting cases involving digital grooming and abuse. As the investigation continues, it reflects a growing need for community awareness and protective measures to safeguard children from online predators. Local authorities are encouraged to increase vigilance and preventive actions to protect minors from such threats, which have the potential to significantly impact their safety and well-being.
