PRF establishes traffic restrictions for certain cargo vehicles on single lanes in MA

Due to increased traffic flow during the Carnival holiday, the PRF has imposed restrictions on certain cargo vehicles on single-lane roads in Maranhão.

The Brazilian Federal Highway Police (PRF) has announced new traffic restrictions for certain cargo vehicles on single-lane roads in Maranhão, prompted by increased vehicle flow leading up to the Carnival holiday. These restrictions aim to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow during a week that traditionally sees a surge in travel as people participate in Carnival celebrations.

The restrictions specifically affect vehicles or combinations of vehicles that exceed certain dimensions or weight limits. According to the PRF, no vehicle can exceed the following limits: 2.60 meters in width, 4.40 meters in height, 19.80 meters in length, or 58.50 tons in Gross Combined Weight (PBTC). This measure is intended to minimize congestion and accidents by controlling large vehicles in areas where narrow roads may pose a danger.

Additionally, the PRF has provided details about single-lane roads, defined as rural roads lacking a central divider or physical barrier between opposing traffic flows. These roads often only have one lane in each direction, thereby necessitating the enforcement of these restrictions during peak travel times to protect both drivers and pedestrians. The PRF is expected to monitor compliance with these new regulations throughout the Carnival period, which is a time of increased travel across the country.
