After witnessing the choir battle, Vidas Mačiulis did not hide his disappointment: "Are Kaunasians not interested?"
Journalist Vidas Mačiulis expressed disappointment over the lack of voting support from the people of Kaunas for their local choir during a televised competition.
In a recent televised choir competition known as the 'Great Choir Battle' aired by LNK television, journalist Vidas Mačiulis criticized the citizens of Kaunas for not supporting their city choir with sufficient votes. Despite the remarkable performance of the Kaunas 'Rubinis' choir, conducted by Martynas Kavaliauskas and praised by esteemed judges, the viewer engagement from Kaunas was unexpectedly low. The discussion gained traction on social media, highlighting a perceived disconnect between the choir's achievements and local support.
Mačiulis pointed out that the voting results showed a troubling trend, with the number of votes for the Kaunas choir equating to those of a much smaller city, Alytus. With only about 4,000 votes cast for each, he underscored that this participation was disproportionate given the population difference, where Kaunas boasts significantly more residents. His comments sparked a broader conversation on social media platforms about local pride and support for cultural endeavors.
The situation raises questions about community engagement in cultural events and the significance of local support for artistic initiatives. As the 'Great Choir Battle' continues, the reactions from citizens will likely influence future participation and the visibility of local talents in Lithuania’s vibrant cultural scene.
