Man shot dead in bar in PI; victim allegedly went to collect a debt from suspect, police say
A 47-year-old man was shot dead outside a bar in Miguel Alves, Brazil, reportedly while trying to collect a debt from the bar owner, who is the main suspect in the case.
Alex Sandro Feitosa de Araújo, aged 47, was shot in the back with a shotgun while leaving a bar in Miguel Alves on Thursday night. According to the police, the main suspect behind the shooting is Paulo Antônio Ribeiro, the 63-year-old bar owner, who allegedly owed money to the victim. Witnesses reported that Paulo retrieved a shotgun after being confronted by Alex in the bar regarding the debt.
The incident escalated as Alex was attempting to leave the premises. Despite reportedly trying to flee after being shot, he collapsed near his vehicle and was found unresponsive by emergency medical personnel. Neighbors promptly called the emergency services (Samu), but upon arrival, they confirmed the victim was already dead. The police, medical examiner’s office, and forensic team promptly responded to the scene to investigate.
The military police stated that they conducted searches in the vicinity of the crime, including nearby bushes, but were unable to locate the suspect. The case highlights ongoing concerns about violence and debt-related disputes in the region, raising questions about safety in social venues such as bars.
